So recently, I visited a vegetarian yum cha restaurant recommended by J.L, my dear high school friend. In my mind, I was thinking... could this place be better than the one at Newtown? To be honest, I love vegetarian food, but never actually could be bothered to have it. They don't seem quite so worth it on the menu in restaurants, and I don't like paying for salads. Maybe it's because my aunt has a farm and we get fresh organic vegetables from her for free. Maybe it's because veggies really don't cost as much as meat, or the fact that most restaurants don't wash their salads before dishing them out to customers #fact.

The place is Bodhi Restaurant, though most people will just say, the vegan yum cha below St. Mary's Cathedral. We went there at about 12, and saw most tables inside were reserved already. Managed to snag a table as it was still early. This inari dish was filled with vegetables (yeah, well done stating the obvious...) with a really rich peanut sauce on top. I just liked the satay sauce really, but because vegetables let out heaps of liquid, it was rather messy eating this and my bowl was a quarter filled with veggie juice afterwards.

Spinach dumpling. I'm not sure if this is true for most vegetarian dishes, but I found Bodhi's food rather bland.

Ohh fake meat, aka Seitan. This char siu bao had really little filling.. =(

Mushroom dumplings... again, bland... though I suppose the point is to bring out the natural flavors of the vegetables?

I do like their homemade soy milk, Asian style, very much. Though we asked for sweetened, it wasn't overly sweet. In fact, I couldn't tell it was sweetened, but tt said if it weren't, it'd be bitter.

Funny thing was that there exists only one menu in the whole restaurant, and it's the one on a stand at the front entrance. I asked to look at the menu to see what assortment of dishes they had, and the landlady brought it to me, saying she'd need it back real soon to put at the front again. I had a quick browse and decided to try their fake prawn cheong fun.

Fake prawn! The skin of this cheong fun is very different to the ones at typical yum cha. It was much thicker and firmer... almost chewy.
Verdict? The total cost came up to about the same as typical yum cha. This place is vegetarian, no doubt about it, their food tastes vegetarian. If we were to compare it to Green Gourmet's vegetarian yum cha during the weekends in Newtown... now I'm going to be really bias and post up photos from Newtown's vegetarian yum cha.

Their assorted wild mushrooms were stewed in a really delicious sauce that I wouldn't actually mind drinking or pouring all over rice.

Their summer rolls are moist but not runny, with mint leaves that are so refreshing. NO coriander or parsley in them, which is a plus from me :D

Their siu mai are the cutest things ever, and are nicely flavored, yet it does not overpower the natural flavors of the vegetables. Not bland, not overpowering, nicely balanced.

Their char siu seitan with peanuts~ actually can pass off as chicken. I was looking for THESE type of dishes in Bodhi, but found none. The closest was fake prawn cheong fun and even that wasn't very convincing at all.
I don't think I'll be visiting Bodhi very often at all, but I must say, vegetarian dishes really do your body good. I felt amazingly well after having all those vegetables for lunch. Helps not to order fried items too, just the steamed ones.

And I'm still loving my kindle. Very much.
